About SLOW COLLAPSE

"Slow Collapse" began in the autumn of 2018 when global concerns about the future of the environment and climate change began to intensify. Collaborating artists Theophilos Constantinou and Anthony Thomas engaged in cooperative and interdisciplinary exchanges, contemplating concepts such as nature, faith, spirituality, civilization, and human coexistence. As a result, their work became poetic, musical, and vividly expressive. They depicted the regenerative capacity of the ocean and the tensions between humans and nature, offering profound reflections on our current ecological narrative.

The Encounter of SLOW COLLAPSE and ONE OCEAN, ALL LANDS

Through their project's reflections, Theophilos and Anthony developed an interest in Japanese history, particularly the industrialization era. They became fascinated with Japan's relationship with nature and water, recognizing its unique ecosystems, which they deemed essential to explore. Subsequently, they visited Japan multiple times, capturing photographs to document their project. In their quest to share their record of the complex relationship between humans and nature with a broader audience, they sought the best way to preserve it in some form. This led them to nanamica, the Japanese fashion brand that supports a peaceful way of life based on the philosophy of perceiving the world as one under the slogan "ONE OCEAN, ALL LANDS" The artists and the brand found resonance in each other's philosophies, which led them to together publish this book.
