Taking “UTILITY” and “SPORTS” as key words, nanamica mixes fashion and functionality at a high level to offer “standard wear for the current age” with neutral design that transcends the boundaries of genre, age, or gender. Keeping distance from passing trends, we make high quality items that can remain a part of people’s lives for a long time. The brand name means “house of the seven seas,” and the relaxing image of the ocean is something that we always cherish, as we create items with people from all over the world irrespective of nationality or faith and send out our creations and message to the world.

Being lovers of the ocean, we were looking out at the Shonan sea one day, imagining Hawaii out there beyond the Pacific Ocean and California further beyond, when the realization hit us, “the ocean is one and the world is connected.” I told this idea to the founder of the New Zealand outdoor brand “Macpac,” Bruce McIntyre (who is also my brother in law) and he came up with the phrase “One Ocean, All Lands” for us.
Taking these words as our mantra, we would like to continue supporting a peaceful way of living based on the philosophy that sees the world as one.

This is a collaboration line with THE NORTH FACE, which is run by GOLDWIN in Japan, the company where we first built our design career in sportswear. Taking the outdoor gear of THE NORTH FACE as a base and replacing elements with high fashion materials, or keeping the base of traditional materials and Californian outdoor style roots but updating the size and fit, we make casual outdoor wear that mixes the fundamentals of THE NORTH FACE with the fashion of the current time.

Waterproof breathable material developed by the American manufacturing company W.L. Gore & Associates. Fabric laminated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and original waterproof stitching using tape realizes a material that is highly waterproof but also breathable, releasing moisture within clothing to the outside and maintaining the inside of clothing dry and comfortable. We at nanamica have worked together with Gore Japan to co-develop Cotton GORE-TEX fabrics, which is lined with cotton, for raincoats and other items. The finished raincoat is classic in appearance but equipped with complete waterproof functionality and breathability. All products are tested at GORE facilities to assure quality.

High functional down material that has ultra-pure micro-particle ceramics blended into the down using special technology. The down reflects far infrared rays emitted from the body back to the body, creating lasting natural warmth that is not possible with heat-generating materials. It also allows perspiration and uncomfortable moisture to evaporate more easily, helping to keep inside of clothing dry and comfortable.

ALPHADRY®︎ is a new high functional material developed by GOLDWIN. Utilizing 37.5™ technology, micro active particles embedded in fabric fibers attract moisture and transport it outside of clothing where evaporation is promoted using the energy of far infrared rays emitted from the body, which keeps the temperature and humidity stable inside of clothing. Jacket and pants made in this fabric developed for outdoor wear and running wear keep inside of clothing comfortable, is wrinkle resistant, and further, machine-washable and fast-drying, making it great not just for casual wear but perfect as a setup for business occasions.

Fabric blending cotton with COOLMAX®, the modified cross-section polyester yarn made by The LYCRA Company in the US. The capillary action of the unique cross-sectional structure of COOLMAX® collects and releases perspiration from the surface of the body when it is warm, maintaining cool, dry and comfortable wear. When it is cold, the properties of polyester as well as the fabric structure maintains warmth. By blending COOLMAX® with cotton, we create items that have a skin feel and surface texture of natural fibers and the comfort of high functional material.

COOLMAX® Cotton knit jersey material, knitted using a loopwheel knitting machine that is over half a century old. This material has the dry comfortable touch of COOLMAX® and the soft natural feel of cotton. The knitting machine doesn’t apply any tension and knits slowly, so that only 1 meter of fabric can be made per hour, but because the process allows the yarn to always be relaxed and incorporate a lot of air when knitting, the finished fabric is soft and plush.
